Cet article porte sur le projet financé par l’ANR et coordonné par Mercedes Volait : « L’isthme de Suez : un espace inventé aux confins de l’Egypte ». Il présente les premières thématiques sur lesquelles ont porté les recherches concernant l’architecture et l’urbanisme des villes du canal de Suez : l’architecture religieuse et l’espace cosmopolite de la ville-port.
